The Alabama Treasure Forest Association is sponsoring a forestry Festival, Saturday, May 6 at Clarke Preparatory School in Grove Hill.
The event, which was supposed to be one of three held in Alabama, is now the only one being held in the state. It will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and will feature a variety of forestry-related entertainment and exhibits.
There will be several children's activities in the "Acorn Area," including Mother's Day card creations, decorating fans to "beat the heat," making pine cone bird feeders, making a flower from a wooden pencil, creating a 'Forest Friends" booklet using thumbprints, nature tattoos, wood sculpture and decorating a bag to take their treasures home in.
Jerry Davidson of Washington County will give a demonstration on carving a totem pole.
Entertainment includes All That Jazz, a jazz band from New Orleans, Running On, a gospel group from Mississippi and local talent Winky Hicks and the rest of the Frontier Blue Grass band.
There will be forestry exhibits and demonstrations of forestry equipment.
Timber sports include a lumberjack competition, ax throwing, stock saw speed cutting and a hot saw contest. Prizes will be awarded in these events.
An arts and crafts show will be held and catfish plates can be purchased in the CPS cafeteria for $7. |
