Germany has funded a project on restoration and sustainable management of forests in central Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces.
Implementation of the project was discussed at a seminar held in Binh Dinh province from Nov. 30-Dec.1.
The project aims to improve local people's living conditions, mainly by generating forest-based jobs and increasing people's incomes. Other targets of the project are to improve the climate and to increase bio-diversity in project-benefited areas.
At first, the project will help restore and manage about 22,700 ha of forests currently in danger of ecological damage and ensure sustainable management of about 10,000 ha of re-planted forests, thus protecting natural resources and generating jobs for about 15,000 farmer households. It will help ensure stable incomes for local people by diversifying forest products.
The project, with a total investment of Eur12.3 million, including Eur9.7 million in non-refundable aid from the German Government, and being carried out from 2005-2013, will benefit 35 communes in 10 districts. |
