The federal government does have a role to play in helping out Ontario's troubled forest industry. That's the feeling of Thunder Bay Superior North M-P Joe Comuzzi. Comuzzi was responding to calls for federal assistance, following the announcement of a 330-million dollar provincial plan yesterday. And the veteran M-P says he thinks his government should provide the same amount of help as the province...if not more.
Thunder Bay MP Joe Comuzzi has weighed in on yesterday's call for federal support in tackling the forestry crisis.
Minister of Natural resources David Ramsey made the request yesterday following his release of the provincial strategy. The province has committed 500 million dollars and critics are calling on the feds to match.
Comuzzi says he'd like to see more support for small communities...including giving municipalities more say over fibre allotment. And energy is still a huge factor crippling the forestry industry. Comuzzi says he's tired of Northern Ontario paying for the mistakes of previous provincial governments .
A federal forestry council is currently developing a national strategy to address the crisis...Comuzzi says he expects the Federal plan to be released with the next 6 to 8 weeks. |
