China launched monitoring program on the wetland of Yellow River Delta |
2005/1/25
The first wetland monitoring program for nature reserve in China was recently launched by State Forestry Administration in Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve, reported by Xinhua News Agency.
Total investment of the program will be 12.07 million Yuan RMB, which will be used to construct a wetland monitoring center, two monitoring stations and 29 monitoring sites.
Wetland monitoring covers various types of landscape, population, community and species in wetland by means of 3S technologies---remote sensing, GPS and GIS--and an experts early warning system. The data collected will be analyzed by the researchers to better understand the dynamics of wetland under natural and managed disturbances and to provide scientific basis for the conservation and wise use of wetland.
Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve is ideal for implementing wetland monitoring program in China for its importance as the youngest but the largest and best-protected wetland ecosystem in warm temperate zones in China, and also for its significance as an important staging area, wintering habitat and breeding site for migratory birds in Northeast Asia and western Pacific Ocean.
