Mozambique Introduces 20% Tax on Unprocessed Timber, AIM Says
2010/5/14

May 13 (Bloomberg) -- Mozambique’s parliament approved a 20 percent tax on the exports of unprocessed timber, national news agency Agencia de Informacao de Mozambique (AIM) reported today, citing a bill passed in parliament.

Primarily processed wood will attract a 15 percent tax, while fully processed timber won’t pay any tax, the Maputo-based state-controlled news agency said.

The bill also prohibits exporting of unprocessed hardwood timber, said the news agency. Only fully processed wood, such as wooden furniture, can be exported tax free.
