China International Fair for Investment and Trade(CIFIT for short)is sponsored by China’s Ministry of Commerce（MOFCOM）, and co-sponsored by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)，United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), International Finance Corporation (IFC) and World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA). It is held annually by Fujian Provincial Government, Xiamen Municipal Government and Investment Promotion Agency of MOFCOM, China. CIFIT is at present China’s sole nation-wide international investment promotion event focusing on bilateral investment, and the world’s largest and the only investment-oriented fair approved by Union of International Fairs (UFI), the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. The 12^th CIFIT will be held in Xiamen, Fujian Province during September 8-11, 2008. Combining Investment with trade, exhibition with talks, project promotion with policy consultation, and policy briefings with information releases, the fair will provide participants with comprehensive services for bilateral and multilateral investment cooperation. My department will organize more than 40 major forest enterprises to take part in the CIFIT and a matchmaking meeting for forest business will be held in the afternoon of September 8. It will enable face-to-face contacts between those representatives from Fujian’s major enterprises of forest, forest products processing, forest trade and foreign forest entrepreneurs. The forestry departments, associations and enterprises from all the countries around the world are also warmly welcomed to hold special presentation for their forest products and investment. We will provide services for the presentation.

Fujian Province is one of the key forest regions in Southern China. There are 7,649,400 ha of forested land. Its forest coverage rate reaches up to 62.96%, which puts Fujian in the first place in China. The living standing timber stocking is 497 million m³. The production for the main timber and forest products is among the best throughout China. In 2007, We obtained 119 projects for foreign investment with contracted investment of 588 million US dollars and actual investment of 332 million US dollars. We imported 1.1 million m³ forest products, such as logs, and sawn timber, 1.75 million tons of paper and pulp, while exported 1.69 billion US dollars from the various products of timber processing to bamboo, rattan work. The forest product imp. and exp. amount reached 2.68 billion US dollars.
