Six forestry networks kick off nationwide
2006/8/2

VietNamNet - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has set up six regional forestry networks to protect agricultural ecology in provinces which boast more than 50,000 ha of forest.

These networks will run in the northeastern and northwestern mountainous regions, northern central and southern central regions, the Central Highlands and the south of Vietnam which is comprised of the southeastern region and the Mekong Delta.

The northern plain has not set up a forest network of its own because forest areas are scattered throughout the region.

The forestry networks will operate as a bridge between the national forestry development programme and the above provinces' plans as well as between the Government and international investors and donors for forest development in Vietnam, said the Forestry Department.

Regional forestry networks will support the MARD in implementing provicial-scaled forest projects, supervising the existing forests and farming land, fulfilling the Government's international commitments on forest development, and raising public awareness for forest protection.

The forest networks will also help the Ministry to design prioritised projects at the provincial level to request investment from the Government, official development assistance, the forestry hedge fund, and the Vietnam Conservation Fund.

These networks are focusing on making strategies of forestry development for the 2006 to 2020 period for each and every province and region
